Background
Universal Nutrient Basic Income 2.0: Policylab related to municipal innovation and prepardness for future food resilience" explores how municipalities can strengthen crisis preparedness, reduce long-term public costs, and retain and increase local value creation by enabling a resilient, regenerative, health-promoting and equitable food system within planetary boundaries.
Idea and need
In the UBNI 2.0 DML, MiljöMatematik and Positiva pengar aim to explore a set of prototypes across key municipal levers, including new ways of, social welfare, labour market activation and rehabilitation, investing in land conversion and agricultural transition.
Food as social assistance
What if social assistance strengthened health and local food systems? This option explores food-based welfare models from food boxes to a Universal Basic Nutrient Income that improve nutrition, reduce long-term costs and support local producers.
Food for work
Can food production become a pathway to employment, rehabilitation and youth engagement? This option links labour market activation with local agroecological farming, improving well-being, skills and food resilience at the same time.
Funding investments
How can municipalities finance food system transitions without overburdening budgets? This option explores bonds and citizen-backed investments that keep capital circulating locally and strengthen long-term resilience.
Local currencies
Can local currencies support preparedness, sustainability and social equity? This option explores how carefully designed local currencies can strengthen local economies and food systems while remaining legally and technically feasible for municipalities.
Potential
The project aim to produce implementable policy prototypes based on economic and financial policy innovations that are realistic within existing legal and institutional frameworks.
Relevance to the mission
New explorative incentive mechanism to create a stable demand for sustainable produced food is key to reach the mission. Municipals could have a key role in this transition.
