How we do it

The innovation platform will be sensing, and sense-making the future through foresight methods, including e.g. weak signals and horizon scanning, future wheels, ands scenario making. It will analyze trends affecting the Swedish and planetary food systems as well as organize regular foresight seminars with their actors to identify levers and barriers to change. Actors engaged can create a better resilience and preparedness against future challenges and uncertainties and strategize accordingly.

The platform creates demonstrations to test proof of concepts. It is a place for generating own prototypes in collaboration with food system actors. Platform is also a place of support for prototypes that align with its mission in terms of know-how.

The platform aims to challenge the status quo and expand the boundaries of the possible through own prevocational work based on ongoing learnings. One example is the Universal Basic Nutrient Income.

The platform aims to support portfolio generation - a structured, collaborative approach to tackling complex challenges like sustainable production, food waste, and equitable access. Through this model, the platform doesn’t just provide isolated solutions but instead orchestrates a “portfolio” of coordinated interventions—multiple projects, policies, or innovations that interact and support each other. By involving a wide range of stakeholders (farmers, policymakers, consumers, and researchers) and pooling resources, the platform enables actors to experiment, share knowledge, and adapt based on diverse, real-time data insights and shared risks.

This approach encourages participants to align around common missions. The platform also enhances decision-making by framing interventions in terms of long-term goals and building systemic resilience, rather than short-term fixes. For food system actors, this means a more agile, resource-efficient way to advance sustainability and innovation together, adapting collectively to shifting needs and challenges.
